Swim worked with the Consumer Systems group at IBM to create a vision of a family-oriented, kitchen-based information appliance. Swim developed a rigorous taxonomy of functions for the potential product. In addition, Swim created a number of scenarios for use in brainstorming which depicted specific contexts of use without specifying product details. These scenarios allowed the product development team to brainstorm around user needs and desirable product configurations before delving into detailed design.
